Kazakhstan to export wheat to Kyrgyzstan

Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov met with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers – Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev as part of his visit to Bishkek, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Agriculture Ministers discussed possible strengthening of bilateral cooperation and expansion of agricultural trade.
The trade turnover of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan amounted to $299.4 million, of which $220.1 million was export, and $79.3 million was import.
In the first seven months of 2024, there was an increase in export of pasta, wheat flour, sunflower oil and other goods from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan increased the import of mineral and carbonated water, milk and bakery products.
“Agriculture is a strategic area for our cooperation. We must continue working to increase trade volumes, improve its structure and expand the range of goods supplied,” Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov said.
It was noted that Kyrgyzstan had been purchasing grain crops from the neighboring countries for the past few years. An agreement was reached at the meeting on supply of Kazakh wheat to Kyrgyzstan.
Bakyt Torobaev instructed the millers to negotiate this issue with representatives of the National Food Corporation of Kazakhstan. The Food Corporation will ship the first trial batch in the near future.
In addition, Kyrgyzstan expressed interest in importing mineral fertilizers, increasing export quotas for cattle and small cattle, and Kazakhstan – in importing early vegetables.
