Kazakhstan shipped the first batch of 60 thsd tons of grain to Morocco

Kazakhstan has begun exporting wheat to Morocco, sending the first batch of 60,000 tonnes via a complex logistics route combining rail and sea transport. According to the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), 17 train cars with grain grown in the northern regions of the country were sent from the stations of Zhana-Esil (Akmola region) and Sarykol (Kostanay region).
The first convoy of 105 grain trucks is already heading through the territory of Latvia to the Baltic port of Liepaja, where the wheat will be transshipped onto merchant ships heading to the coast of Morocco. The route opens a new logistics route connecting the steppes of Central Asia with the markets of North Africa, demonstrating Kazakhstan’s ambitious plans to expand exports.
In the first quarter of 2025, Morocco imported 83.5 thousand tons of wheat from Kazakhstan, which indicates a growing interest in Kazakh grain, known for its high quality for flour production. This delivery has become part of Kazakhstan’s strategy to increase exports to North African countries.
The planned shipment of 17 railway trains with a total volume of 60 thousand tons of wheat emphasizes Kazakhstan’s potential as a key supplier of grain to international markets. In 2024, the country harvested a record harvest of 26.7 million tons of grain, including 18 million tons of wheat, which contributes to the intensification of export operations.
This initiative opens up new opportunities for cooperation between Kazakhstan and Morocco, and also strengthens the position of Kazakh grain in the global market. It is expected that the successful implementation of this project will contribute to the further expansion of export routes through the Baltic countries and strengthening trade ties with North Africa.
