Kazakhstan increases oil production and exports

In January-October of this year, oil production in the country increased by 10.2% to 549.6 thousand tons compared to the same period last year.

The growth was in soybean (+2.2 times), rapeseed (+two times) and sunflower oil (+3.2%). On the contrary, cottonseed oil saw a 36.2% decline in production, according to the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan.

If we consider the situation with exports, then there is a 1.5-fold increase in exports of sunflower oil. It is about 293.6 thsd tonnes, or $264.7 mln.

The main buyers were Uzbekistan – 117.8 thousand tons (+1.7 times) and China – 111.4 thousand tons (+1.9 times). Kazakh oil was also exported to Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Norway.

Exports of soybean oil also increased by 19.2%, to 10.1 thousand tons ($8.2 million), which was supplied to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and China.

In addition, Kazakhstan sold 37.4 thsd tonnes of rapeseed oil, but this is slightly less than last year – by 3.5%. Almost the entire volume went to China – 31 thsd tonnes (+14.5%). But Tajikistan reduced its purchases of rapeseed oil by 21.3%, to 6.3 thsd tonnes.

The decline also affected the supply of cottonseed oil – by 2% (8.2 thsd tonnes), it was supplied to Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey.

Meanwhile, imports of sunflower oil decreased by 17.6% to 78.4 thsd tonnes, or $76.9 mln. Most of it was imported from Russia, but small volumes were also purchased in China, Poland, and Tajikistan.

The local market also received 43.7 thsd tonnes of palm oil, which is almost twice as much as in the first ten months of 2022. The importers are Malaysia – 30.1 thsd tonnes (+2.8 times), Russia – 10 thsd tonnes (-5.5%) and Indonesia – 3.3 thsd tonnes (+five times).

Olive oil was purchased in smaller volumes – 790.8 tons (+13.2%) – from Spain, Italy and Greece.
