Kazakhstan exported a large volume of wheat to Algeria for the first time
Since the beginning of 2025, Kazakhstan has exported large volumes of wheat to Algeria for the first time – 390,000 tons worth over $100 million, the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
This was largely facilitated by state subsidies for transportation costs to Kazakhstan in 2025, as well as significant support at the foreign policy level,” the statement said.
At the beginning of the year, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Algeria, Anuarbek Akhmetov, met with Nasreddine Messaoud, Director General of the Algerian Intersectoral Office for Grain Crops (OAIC), which coordinates centralized state import purchases of wheat and legumes. During the meeting, he was presented with samples of Kazakh wheat with laboratory test results, provided by JSC NC Food Contract Corporation. As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted, the head of the OAIC highly praised the quality of our wheat and expressed interest in organizing its supply to the Algerian market.
In June, the ambassador held talks with Algerian Agriculture Minister Youssef Cherfa, who expressed his political support for expanding comprehensive agricultural cooperation with Kazakhstan, including the supply of Kazakh grain to Algeria.
Overall, in addition to wheat, Kazakhstan has significant potential for exporting meat, legumes, and other agricultural products to Algeria,” the ministry reported.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that Algeria is one of the largest wheat importers, ranking fifth globally and purchasing up to 9 million tons of soft wheat annually. Supplies are centralized by the state and strictly through the Algerian Intersectoral Grain Office, which regularly conducts international tenders.
