Italy exports up to 1 mln tons of Ukrainian corn
The total supply of corn in Ukraine has increased to 14 million tons. Harvest rates remain high, and yields are gradually increasing.
This is reported by analysts at Spike Brokers.
Ukraine is trapped by circumstances that are holding back export shipments and limiting the ability to compete in foreign markets.
This creates the effect of deferred supply, as producers refrain from selling, expecting better conditions. Such behavior potentially increases the risk of losing market share to competitors. At the same time, current sales remain less profitable due to high logistics costs.
Supply chains are starting to be saturated with corn: in October, Ukraine exported about 1 million tons compared to 1.9 million tons in the same period last year.
About 500 thousand tons were shipped to European countries. On the Italian market, spot prices decreased by €5 compared to last week. In Ukraine, spot prices for deliveries remained stable until the end of November, while they adjusted down by $2-3 for December-January. The spot price index for corn with delivery within 30 days increased by $2 compared to last week’s level – to $208. Ukraine sold about 300 thousand tons of corn with shipment by rail across the western border towards Italy. Contracts were concluded for delivery until June 2026. Total exports of the 2025 harvest by trains to Italy are expected to reach 1 million tons. Corn was actively traded on the western border, with transshipment at Chop and subsequent loading into Eurocars. Contract prices are: €182-183 (November-December 2025), €184-185 (January-June 2026), loaded into Eurocars. The market is already recording the first sales of the 2026 harvest, which was still trading at €185 (November-December 2026).
