Iran claims control over parts of UAE coast
Iran has announced control over certain sections of the United Arab Emirates’ coastline, publishing a map of what it described as an expanded maritime zone. The report was released by Reuters.
According to the published materials, the new zone extends beyond the Strait of Hormuz and covers significant stretches of the UAE’s coastline along the Gulf of Oman. In particular, it includes the ports of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan.
Both ports play a crucial role in the country’s logistics, especially amid ongoing tensions. Since the start of the conflict, the UAE has relied on them to bypass risks and disruptions associated with navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Fujairah is of particular importance, as it serves as the endpoint of the Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline, which transports crude from inland fields directly to the Gulf of Oman. This has allowed the UAE to maintain oil exports to global markets even during periods of instability.
Analysts note that if Iran effectively secures control over access to these ports, it could amount to a near-total maritime blockade of the UAE, with potentially significant implications for global energy markets.
