Indonesia to increase palm oil exports

Indonesia plans to significantly increase its palm oil exports in 2025, reaching 25 million tons, 1 million tons more than last year. This is according to forecasts by German analysts Oilword. This increase was made possible by the resumption of production after a temporary decline at the beginning of the year.

Despite a decline in exports by more than 5% in the first months of 2025, in particular a sharp drop in April, when shipments amounted to only 1.31 million tons compared to 2.3 million in March, May brought positive changes. Palm oil production in Indonesia reached 47.8 million tons, which allowed to revive export deliveries.

From January to April, Indonesia exported 7.4 million tons of palm oil, which is only slightly inferior to the indicator for the same period in 2024 (7.58 million tons). This indicates the stability of demand in international markets, despite temporary logistical and production challenges.

The main importers of Indonesian palm oil remain European countries, China, India and Pakistan. In particular, in the first four months of 2025, 757 thousand tons were delivered to the EU, 865 thousand tons to China, 718 thousand tons to India, and 893 thousand tons to Pakistan. Although supplies to India decreased compared to last year, the increase in demand from China partially compensated for these losses.

Experts note that the revival of exports was made possible by improved processing technologies and stable demand for palm oil in the food and cosmetics industries. Indonesia is actively working to expand its sales markets, in particular through trade agreements with countries in Asia and Africa.
