India’s palm oil imports from Malaysia rise 8.5pc in August

India imported 327,815 tonnes of palm oil from Malaysia in August — an increase of about 8.5 per cent over the previous month.
The shipments from Malaysia comprised 287,018 tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO), 24,000 tonnes of RBD palmolein and 16,797 tonnes of crude palm kernel oil.
Its total palm oil imports last month stood at more than 1.12 million tonnes, representing a 61 per cent share in overall vegetable oil imports, according to the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India.
It said despite sufficient availability, a sharp drop in domestic edible oil prices in August boosted consumer demand.
