India will increase grain storage capacity by almost 50%

India’s government has approved a new 1 trillion Indian rupee (about $12.1 billion) grain-processing capacity development program that calls for decentralized grain-saving facilities. The program was approved to increase the country’s grain storage capacity from the current 145 million tons to 215 million tons, the Hindustan Times reported.
India’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution estimates that as of May 30, 26.2 million tons of winter wheat (rabi) for the 2023/24 crop had already been purchased domestically, up from 18.8 million tons last year.
