In Ukraine, the amount of damage to the agricultural sector and land resources from the war was calculated
During the year of the full-scale war, the amount of direct damage caused to the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine is $8.7 billion. This was reported by the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) with reference to its own calculations, UkrAgroConsult reports with reference to Agroreview.
Agricultural machinery was the most affected by Russian aggression in the agricultural sector, as a result of which the estimated losses of manufacturers amount to more than $4.65 billion. In total, 109.6 thousand units of agricultural machinery were damaged or destroyed as a result of the war.
The second largest category of losses in the agricultural sector is related to the destruction and theft of manufactured products. KSE recorded more than 4 million tons of destroyed and stolen finished agricultural products. The total cost of these losses is estimated at $1.87 billion.
In addition, the total capacity of the destroyed granaries reaches 8.2 million tons of produced products, and the damaged granaries have 3.25 million tons of capacity for simultaneous storage. The cost of restoring the destroyed facilities is estimated at $1.33 billion.
In terms of regions, if we assess the damage caused to the agricultural sector, the Luhansk, Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia regions were the most affected.
The assessment of direct losses of the agro-industrial complex and agricultural infrastructure includes the following losses:
– agricultural machinery, elevators and other silos;
– animal husbandry from the death and slaughter of animals due to the impossibility of keeping them;
– producers of perennial crops due to damage to plantations;
– beekeeping;
– factors of production and finished products due to their damage and theft.
