In the new season, the production of sunflower oil in Ukraine may increase to 6 million tons

Ukraine may produce 4.5-4.7 million tons of sunflower oil in the 2022/23 season. This was stated by the association of vegetable oil producers Ukroliyaprom, Reuters reports.

In the new season, the production of sunflower oil in Ukraine may increase to 6 million tons, as farmers plan to increase the area under sunflower.

Ukraine, which before the Russian invasion was the world’s largest producer and exporter of sunflower oil, may export 4.4 to 4.5 million tons of sunflower oil in 2022/23 MY.

It is worth noting that in 2020/21 season Ukraine exported 5.3 mln tonnes of sunflower oil. The Association did not provide the data for 2020/21.

As a reminder, in March 2023, Ukraine exported the highest volume of sunflower oil in the last 14 months – 524 thsd tonnes (+28% y/y). The increase was due to the increase in shipments to the EU (+47% y/y), China (+25% y/y), and resumption of shipments to Iraq after a three-month break.
