In the first 2 months of 2024, China imported 1.21 mln tons of vegetable oils
According to the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), the country imported 6.19 mln tons of corn in January-February this year, which is 16.1% higher than a year earlier. The amount spent on the purchase of the mentioned volume of the grain amounted to $1.765 bln.
In addition, according to the GACC, China imported 2.51 mln tonnes of wheat (-16.9% y-o-y) worth $803.6 mln in the first two months of this year. Soybean imports amounted to 13.04 mln tonnes (-8.8% y-o-y) worth $7.439 bln.
Also, in the period under review, the country imported 1.21 mln tons of oil, which is 12.4% less than in the previous year. In monetary terms, imports decreased by 28.7% to $1.195 billion. In particular, imports of palm oil totaled 390 thousand tons in January and February, down 37.1% year-on-year to $339 million.
