In March, Ukraine already exported 2.5 million tons of grain and will increase the pace of exports against the background of the extension of the “grain deal”
To ensure the stable operation of the grain corridor, the representatives of Turkey, Ukraine and the UN at the negotiations in Istanbul are making maximum efforts to extend the grain agreement for another 120 days, while the representatives of the Russian Federation agree to an extension of only 60 days.
“During the operation of the grain corridor, more than 24 million tons of grain and other foodstuffs were transported, therefore its continuation is very important. We will try to extend the agreement for 120 days instead of 60 and resolve this issue in the near future. The UN has the same vision as us, but decisions will be made by Ukraine and Russia,” Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said.
We would like to remind you that since August 1, 2022 (the beginning of the operation of the grain corridor), Ukraine exported 24.4 million tons of agricultural products from the ports of Odesa region to the countries of Asia, Europe and Africa.
According to the State Customs Service, in the 2022/23 MY as of March 15, 34.734 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were exported from Ukraine (of which 2.437 million tons were in March), namely:
- wheat – 11.989 million tons (in March – 651 thousand tons);
- barley – 2.141 million tons (91 thousand tons);
- rye – 16.6 thousand tons (1 thousand tons);
- corn – 20.29 million tons (1.686 million tons),
- flour – 106,600 tons (7,667,000 tons), including wheat – 102,400 tons (7,478,000 tons in March).
USDA experts predict that by the end of the season, Ukraine will export another 1.5 million tons of wheat, 1 million tons of barley, and 5.8 million tons of corn. At the current rate of export, the indicated volumes can be shipped even in 60 days, and in case of extension of the grain corridor for 120 days, Ukraine will be able to realize all its export potential.
