Imports of American corn will have a positive impact on Thailand’s agricultural sector, including poultry production and exports, Thaifoods Group announced.

According to Phet Nantavisai, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, US corn supplies will reduce feed production costs, which could contribute to further growth in the Thai chicken industry, which is currently growing at 5-7% per year.

He noted that purchasing American corn will provide Thailand with higher-quality and lower-cost raw materials, allowing the country to better compete with Vietnam, where corn prices are USD 0.03-0.05 per kg lower than in Thailand. Corn prices for the Thai poultry industry are expected to decline to approximately USD 0.28 per kg from the current USD 0.29-0.30 per kg.

Phet emphasized that Thailand’s production costs are currently 20-30% higher than those of major chicken producers such as Brazil, the US, and the EU. Nevertheless, the Thai industry remains competitive thanks to its reputation for product quality, safety, and taste.

He added: “Thai processors can produce and supply products that meet customer preferences.” Lower feed ingredient costs will allow producers to retain existing customers and expand into new markets where buyers are seeking more affordable products.

Thailand and the United States are currently negotiating tariffs, including access for American goods such as corn and soybean meal to the Thai market. The Thai government plans to finalize the tariff agreement by the end of this year, and imports of American corn could begin as early as mid-2026, Mr. Phet expects.
