Hungary wants guarantees for its farmers in new EU-Ukraine trade deal

The Hungarian government believes that the proposals for the renewed Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Ukraine do not contain mechanisms to protect the interests of Hungarian farmers.
This was stated by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, József Viszky, to journalists before the start of the meeting of the ministers of agriculture of the EU countries in Brussels.
“We are convinced that the proposal does not provide any guarantees that could protect the interests of Hungarian farmers from the influx of Ukrainian imports. The main thing here is to protect the interests of Hungarian farmers,” Viszky said, adding that the Budapest government has been defending this position for the past few years.
