The Grain From Ukraine humanitarian initiative will transition to a new format – Food from Ukraine, which will involve exporting technologies to African countries and building mutually beneficial partnerships. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during the opening of the IV International Food Security Summit “Food from Ukraine”.

“Today, Grain From Ukraine, a well-known initiative, is transitioning to a new qualitative format – Food from Ukraine. This is our strategic course. We are moving from a raw material exporting country to a state that creates world-class food products, which ensures the stability of international markets and helps those who need this support the most in the world. Food from Ukraine means exporting approaches, technologies and building partnerships that help Africa feed itself and develop. We are moving from providing humanitarian aid to a model of mutually beneficial development,” she said.

Svyrydenko recalled that the President of Ukraine’s Grain From Ukraine initiative was launched immediately after the start of the full-scale invasion. According to her, since the beginning of the great war, Ukraine has exported 66 million tons of food to countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

“We delivered food products even when our ports were hit, when our ports were blocked, when terminals and warehouses were destroyed, when Russian missiles were aimed at farmers in the fields. And this is our conscious choice. Ukraine is a state that is forced to defend itself, but in such times we are ready and help others, those who really need it,” she emphasized.

The Prime Minister noted that this humanitarian initiative has helped provide food to more than 20 million people from vulnerable categories in Africa and the Middle East.

As reported, Grain from Ukraine is an international humanitarian program launched in 2022. Its goal is to supply Ukrainian food to the most vulnerable countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East with financial support from donor countries and in coordination with the UN World Food Program (WFP).

18 countries have received food aid under the initiative. Despite the name, the program covers not only cereals, but also other food products, including oil and flour.
