Global rapeseed production in the 2025 season will be 2% lower than in the previous year and is forecast to be 87.2 million tons. The decrease is due to a reduction in the sown area and lower yields due to adverse weather conditions.

The total area of rapeseed crops in the world is expected to be 42.4 million hectares, which is 0.7 million hectares less than in the previous season. The reduction in the sown area under the crop, in particular, in Europe and the Black Sea region, is due to a decrease in rapeseed prices.

The main factors of influence: a decrease in rapeseed prices, adverse weather conditions and growing demand from the biofuel sector.

In the EU countries, the area sown to rapeseed is expected to be 5.6-6.0 million hectares, which is 0.2-0.4 million hectares less than in the previous season. At the same time, the forecast for rapeseed production in the EU is 18.4-19.5 million tons, which is 1.4 million tons less than in the previous season. The expected rapeseed yield is at the level of 3 t/ha.

In Poland, the area sown to rapeseed will decrease to 950-980 thousand hectares.

At the same time, in Ukraine, a decrease in the harvest to 4.9 million tons is also predicted due to a decrease in the area to 1.6 million hectares (from 2 million hectares in the previous season). Spring frosts will have a major impact, in particular.

In India, the area sown to rapeseed is predicted to decrease by 7.2% to 3.12 million hectares due to drought in the Rajasthan region.

Instead, rapeseed yields are expected to increase in the US, Canada and Australia, provided demand remains stable. In particular, in the US, rapeseed acreage could increase by 8.3% due to growing demand from the biofuel sector following the approval of rapeseed oil as a feedstock for biofuel production.

Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
