Global market is losing interest in Indian soybean meal
Soybean meal exports from India declined in 2025, as prices proved less attractive than those from other major exporters, particularly the United States and Brazil.
According to the Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), export volumes fell by 37.5% year-on-year in December 2025, reaching just 173,000 tonnes. By comparison, India exported 277,000 tonnes of soybean meal in December 2024. Experts attribute the sharp decline to the high cost of the product.
The main buyers of Indian soybean meal last year were the UAE, Iran, Nepal, and Bangladesh. SOPA representatives confirmed in interviews with Indian media that international demand remains low due to price factors.
The situation is exacerbated by the fact that key players—the United States, Argentina, and Brazil—have significantly increased their soybean meal production. These countries are also expected to post strong performance this year, providing the global market with stable access to more affordable raw materials.
