France in 2022 will reduce the harvest of sunflower
Due to a long summer drought, the sunflower harvest in France in 2022 was reduced to 1.7 million tons, despite the increase in the cultivated area under the crop in the country. This was reported by the Reuters agency with reference to the information of the national technical institute of oil crops Terres Inovia. According to experts, this amount of seeds was collected from an area of more than 840 thousand hectares with an average yield of 2.05 t/ha. The specified indicators are lower than the latest estimate of the French Ministry of Agriculture, which claims that the crop in the current year is 1.83 million tons with a yield of 2.13 t/ha.
As noted in Terres Inovia, the harvest in the current year still remained higher than the average value for the last five years of 1.5 million tons, and the collected amount of sunflower in France will allow local agro-industrial enterprises to increase the volume of processing and shipment of products with a high added value – oil and meal.
Experts also expect that French farmers will continue to increase the sown area for the 2023 harvest – up to 900,000 hectares.
