Farmers in the state of Parana in southern Brazil are starting to harvest their first corn crop and plant their safrinha corn crop. According to the Department of Rural Economics (Deral), the first corn crop is 1% in vegetative development, 8% pollinating, 58% filling grain, 33% mature, and rated 6% average and 94% good. Harvesting of the first corn crop has started with approximately 1% harvested. The corn harvest is 25% complete in the Paranagua region in eastern Parana and 3% complete in the Francisco Beltrao region in western Parana.

The safrinha corn crop in Parana is 2% planted and the corn is 61% germinating and 39% in vegetative development.

Farmers in Parana are optimistic about their 2024/25 corn production. Yields of the first corn crop are expected to be good except for some of the hotter and dryer areas of western Parana. The early safrinha corn is being planted under good conditions and farmers are hoping to maximize their yields to take advantage of strengthening corn prices.

Further development of the grain sector in the Black Sea and Danube region will be discussed at the 23 International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN.KYIV on April 24 in Kyiv.
