European Parliament supported the postponement of the introduction of the EUDR for a year
The European Parliament voted on 26 November to amend the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), postponing its entry into force by one year.
According to the European Parliament’s press service, this decision was supported by 402 MEPs, 250 against and 8 abstentions.
According to the changes, large operators and traders will have to comply with the obligations under this regulation from 30 December 2026, and micro and small enterprises from 30 June 2027. The additional time has been provided to ensure a gradual transition and to complete the setup of the IT systems necessary for submitting due diligence applications.
In addition, the requirements on other issues have been simplified:
The obligation to submit a due diligence application will fall on the business that first places a product on the EU market, rather than on operators and entrepreneurs who subsequently commercialise it.
For micro and small primary operators, the requirements will be reduced to a single simplified declaration.
The next step is negotiations with EU member states on the final text of the law. The changes must be approved by the EU Council and published in the Official Journal by the end of 2025 for the postponement to enter into force.
