European exports of frozen French fries are declining rapidly
EU producers of frozen French fries are facing a decline in demand in markets outside the bloc, despite falling prices and increased competition from China and India. In particular, in November 2025, the average export price fell by 11.8% compared to last year and amounted to 1,154 euros per tonne, which is the lowest figure since November 2022.
This is reported by Expana.
Despite the efforts of European exporters, key sales markets are showing negative dynamics. Deliveries to the UK fell by 9.6%, and to the Middle East by 19.4%. The largest reduction was recorded in Australasia, where exports decreased by 34.5%. At the same time, a positive trend is observed in South America, where exports increased by 8%.
The situation is particularly difficult in Saudi Arabia, where India is actively expanding. Between November 2024 and October 2025, Indian exports to this country increased by 312%. Now the share of Indian products is 15% of the total volume of supplies from the Netherlands, Belgium and France, although a year earlier this figure was only 3.6%.
Experts note that the decline in demand in Britain is due to stagnation in the catering sector and a high level of domestic production. Additional pressure for European processors has been the surplus of potatoes in the current season and the low level of free trade, since most contracts were concluded in advance.
“EU producers will have to continue to reduce prices if the region wants to maintain its positions in key export markets, with the Middle East being of particular concern,” market sources note.
Overall, exports from the EU-5 countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Poland) outside the European Union decreased by 7.9%, and total supply volumes fell by 2%.
