European Commission should prioritize the interests of European farmers over Ukrainian ones, not vice versa – Orban
During a meeting with farmers protesting in Brussels, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the European Commission should put the interests of EU farmers above those of Ukrainian farmers. This is reported by Telex.
In his opinion, the EU does not take seriously the fact that agriculture is an important part of the European economy. Orban criticized the “much more lenient rules” for Ukrainian agriculture, which creates an unfair competitive situation.”
“We are the first to suffer from this – Poles, Slovaks, Hungarians who live in the immediate neighborhood of Ukraine. But sooner or later this threat, these losses will reach the depths of Europe and will be felt here in Brussels, in France, in Spain. The European Commission should put the interests of European farmers above the interests of Ukrainian farmers, not vice versa,” Orban said.
He believes that Ukrainian imports should be completely stopped, and the leadership in Brussels should be completely changed, because “these leaders will never make decisions that will be useful for farmers.”
As a reminder, the European Commission has officially proposed to extend duty-free trade with Ukraine for another year. At the same time, it is proposed to introduce safeguard measures for imports of Ukrainian agricultural products.
