EU will develop additional tariffs on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus

The EU executive bodies will develop proposals for additional tariffs for Russian and Belarusian agricultural products.
The respective instruction to the EU Council and the European Commission is spelled out in the conclusions adopted on Friday in Brussels following a two-day meeting of the European Council.
“In line with its preliminary conclusions, the European Council calls for the early adoption of amendments to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) regulation and encourages the Council and the Commission to continue their work, especially on… the introduction of additional tariffs on certain imports into the European Union of Russian and Belarusian agricultural products, taking into account the impact on the Single Market and ensuring that the transit of such goods to developing countries remains unaffected,” the document says.
- The ministers of agriculture of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, and the Czech Republic have called on the European Commission to ban grain imports from Russia and Belarus to the European Union.
- The European Commission has developed a draft decision that provides for an increase in tariffs on Russian and Belarusian imports of grain crops, oilseeds, and their processed products.
