EU soft wheat exports fall by 32% in the 2024/25 season
Soft wheat exports from the EU in the 2024/25 season, which started in July, reached 7.76 million tons as of November 3. This is a 32% decrease compared to the same period last season. Barley exports fell 39% to 1.7 million tons, Reuters reports, citing European Commission data.
The EU leader in soft wheat exports is Romania with 2.43 million tons. It is followed by Lithuania (1.08 million tons) and Latvia (1.04 million tons). Poland (750 thousand tons) and Bulgaria (710 thousand tons) round out the top five.
France, formerly the largest exporter of European wheat, exported only 660 thousand tons this season. Germany sold 690 thousand tons of wheat on foreign markets.
The main buyers of wheat from the EU in the 2024-2025 season were Nigeria (1.260 million tons), Egypt (691.7 thousand tons), Morocco (584.6 thousand tons), Great Britain (540.4 thousand tons) and Algeria (482.2 thousand tons).
Cereal export data from Italy for the last seven weeks is incomplete. For France there are data gaps from the beginning of the 2024 calendar year, for Bulgaria and Ireland – from the beginning of the 2023-2024 marketing year, specified in the EU materials.
