EU raises soft wheat harvest forecast to 128.2 mln tonnes

The European Commission has raised its forecast for soft wheat production in the European Union in 2025/26 from 126.6 million to 128.2 million tonnes. The harvest will be 15% larger than a year ago, when it was hit by rain.
The increase in the forecast compared to last month was due to abundant rainfall in Romania and Spain.
The outlook for the French crop has also improved. The gross soft wheat harvest in France is now estimated at 32.55 million tonnes, 0.53 million tonnes more than expected a month ago. However, there is uncertainty about the yield after a hot and dry spell in June.
The European Commission has kept its soft wheat export forecast for the 2025/26 season unchanged at 29.8 million tonnes.
The EU soft wheat closing stocks forecast for the 2025/26 season has been revised down from 9.0 million tonnes to 8.3 million tonnes due to the adjustment of opening stocks.
The Commission has also raised its barley production forecasts for 2025/26 by 1 million tonnes to 53.3 million tonnes, maize by 0.8 million tonnes to 64.6 million tonnes and rapeseed by 0.1 million tonnes to 18.9 million tonnes.
