EU palm oil imports down 18% since start of season

According to the European Commission (EC), the volume of palm oil imports into the EU countries has fallen by 18% since the start of the 2024/25 season compared to the same period last year. This downward trend clearly reflects the long-term constraint of the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) on palm oil demand, the department notes.
The volume of imports has fallen from all major supplier countries, with a 24% reduction in supplies from Indonesia, 16% from Malaysia and 36% from Guatemala. Indonesia’s share of total palm oil imports to the EU has fallen from 33.4% last year to 31.1%.
As previously reported by the largest group of Indonesian palm oil producers (GAPKI), Indonesia will export 6.9% less palm oil this year, or 27.5 million tonnes.
