EU countries increased oilseed processing volumes in March
The European Vegetable Oil Producers’ Association (FEDIOL) has calculated that in March 2024, EU oil extraction plants processed just over 3.55 million tons of oilseeds, which is about 8% above the level of the last reporting month. Overall, the figure has risen since the beginning of the year (January-March) to 10.341 million tons compared to 9.723 million tons in the same period in 2023.
As for rapeseed, local enterprises processed 1.677 million tons of this crop in March (-3.5% compared to February 2024) and 5.174 million tons at the end of the first quarter (+5% compared to January-March 2023).
In contrast, soybean processing volumes increased last month, up about 30% to 1.356 million tons. Since the beginning of the year, there has been an increase of more than 5% to 3.579 million tons.
The situation with sunseed is similar: an increase from month to month is recorded. In March 2024, 523 thousand tons of sunflower seeds were delivered to the processing plants for further processing, which is almost 6% more than a month earlier. Since the beginning of the year, the indicators have grown significantly more – by 12%, up to 1.588 million tons.
