Ukraine hopes to soon announce a bilateral agreement with the European Union on the renewal of the free trade agreement. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka on Friday at the forum “State and Business: From Dialogue to Partnership”.

According to him, the Ukrainian side has successfully consolidated the line of liberalization of goods with added value and greater depth of processing. Raw materials remain the most sensitive.

“This will not be a temporary, unilateral agreement [as the previous one – in the form of autonomous trade measures by the EU], but a stable, bilateral agreement within the framework of the renewal of the free trade agreement,” Kachka said.

He said that the negotiation process with the European Union is not easy.

“In fact, every success we have in the European Union is also a problem. Because every success we have then turns into something they want to reduce, somewhere to increase competition. And that’s why it’s difficult to negotiate. And this means that we have a lot of successes in this market. I think we will have really interesting numbers,” said Kachka.

“The announcements will be very soon and they will be really good,” he concluded.

Let us recall that in June 2022, after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, the EU temporarily abolished duties and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural products to help Ukraine compensate for increased export costs due to the threat to traditional maritime trade routes in the Black Sea. These temporary benefits ended in early June 2025, and from June 6, the “pre-war” trade quota regime began to operate while the parties negotiate a new long-term agreement.
