EU ambassadors approve new trade deal with Ukraine, to be ratified on October 13

Ambassadors of the European Union member states in Brussels on October 8 approved a new version of the text of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) agreement between the EU and Ukraine, which is to replace the “trade visa-free regime”, which expired in June 2025.
A European official familiar with the processes told the correspondent of “European Pravda” on condition of anonymity.
The new trade agreement between the EU and Ukraine has been approved at the level of EU ambassadors, and will be approved on Monday, October 13, by the ministers of the European Union.
“Coreper (the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU. – “EP”) approved this decision today, and I can confirm that the act will be adopted on Monday by the EU Council on Justice and Home Affairs,” – the interlocutor of “European Pravda” reported
According to him, after approval by the European Union, the agreement on a deep and comprehensive free trade area with Ukraine “will be approved within the framework of the EU-Ukraine Association Committee in the trade configuration established in accordance with the Association Agreement (between Ukraine and the EU. – “EP”), after Ukraine also approves its position”.
After the above procedures, the new rules of trade between Ukraine and the EU will enter into force.
As a reminder, on June 30, it became known that the European Commission had completed negotiations with Ukraine on the main principles of the revision of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between Ukraine and the EU after the expiry of the Autonomous Trade Measures (ATMs), which introduced a preferential regime for Ukrainian exporters until June 5, 2025.
It is worth noting that Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania stated that the new trade agreement with Ukraine could destabilize the EU’s agricultural markets.
