Ethanol production reached a record level in Brazil
According to UNICA, in 2024, Brazil’s total ethanol production was the largest in history, amounting to 36.83 billion liters, which is 4.4% more than in 2023. This allowed Brazil to become the second largest ethanol producer in the world after the United States.
Of this total volume, 7.7 billion liters were produced from corn, which is 32.8% more than in the previous year.
Fuel consumption by passenger vehicles in Brazil amounted to 59.3 billion liters in 2024. The consumption of water ethanol increased by 5.4 billion liters.
According to UNICA, in the first half of January, sugar factories in the central-southern region of Brazil sold 1.39 billion liters of ethanol, which is 2.6% more than in the same period of the previous season of 2023/24 MY.
Sales of anhydrous ethanol reached 551.24 mln liters, compared to 511.1 mln liters in the same period of January 2024. Sales of driving ethanol decreased to 841.7 mln liters from 846.1 mln liters in the same period a year earlier.
