Ukraine. Epicentr Agro to build 5 mln-ton grain terminal in Pivdennyi port

Epicentr Group, in partnership with the family of Ukrainian MP Anatoliy Urbansky, is set to construct a grain transshipment terminal with an annual capacity of 5 million tons at Pivdennyi Port. According to a 2024 project document obtained by Latifundist.com, the terminal will feature silos with a total storage capacity of 250,000 tons. This ambitious project aims to bolster Ukraine’s grain export capabilities, leveraging the strategic location of Pivdennyi Port to handle significant cargo turnover.
The initiative was first announced by Epicentr K’s CEO Petro Mykhailyshyn in November 2024, with further confirmation from Svitlana Nikityuk, head of the group’s agricultural division, in April 2025. The project has moved beyond planning, with TOV “Casablanca Shipping Limited” (Cyprus), founded by TOV “Epicentr K,” acquiring a 32.61% stake in TOV “Promtekhinnovatsiya” (Odesa). The Urbansky family holds the remaining shares, with Igor Urbansky owning 16.48% and Kateryna and Denys Urbansky each holding 25.46%. The project includes leasing approximately 32 hectares of land in the port’s aquatic area and near the T1606 local highway, sufficient for constructing unloading stations, silos, and a transshipment terminal.
The terminal will feature a dedicated railway station capable of handling up to 3 million tons annually, processing up to five freight trains (50-70 wagons) daily on a 10-hectare site. The facility will include a wagon unloading station with a capacity of 2,000 tons per hour and a truck unloading station handling 1,000 tons per hour. A 1,600-meter conveyor gallery with a capacity of 1,200 tons per hour will connect the unloading stations to around 50 silos, collectively storing 250,000 tons. The terminal will also feature a 350-meter-long, 16-meter-deep berth equipped with two tower cranes, each capable of transshipping 1,500 tons per hour, all owned by Promtekhinnovatsiya.
Port officials familiar with the construction progress report that the project is on track for completion by 2026, despite its technical complexity. The collaboration combines Epicentr Agro’s agricultural expertise and substantial grain production with the Urbansky family’s access to port infrastructure. Epicentr Agro, part of Ukraine’s largest non-food retailer Epicentr K, has grown its agricultural holdings since 2015, managing a 170,000-hectare land bank, 2 million tons of elevator capacity, and 1 million tons of annual crop production. The new terminal will complete its supply chain, enabling direct grain exports from field to international markets.
