Egypt plans to increase domestic wheat purchases by 11%

The Egyptian government is seeking to boost grain purchases on the domestic market to 4 million tons. The harvest of the new crop will begin in mid-April.
Wheat imports in 2024 were the highest in a decade, totaling 14.2 million tons (+31% year-on-year). Consumption in the 2025 calendar year is expected to remain at last year’s level (approximately 20 million tons).
