Soybean imports to Egypt have increased sharply since the beginning of the year — to 2.9 million tons, which is 1 million tons higher than the corresponding level of 2024.

The increase in supplies was made possible by reduced prices offered by sellers of oilseeds from the United States. According to analysts from Oil World (Germany), imports of American soybeans have more than doubled and reached 2.2 million tons since the beginning of 2025, taking market share from Brazil and Ukraine.

However, the rapid increase in soybean processing within the country led to a reduction in the need for soybean meal imports, which decreased by more than half — to 0.2 million tons in October-July MY 2024/25, which mainly affected purchases from Argentina.

Earlier it became known that Ukrainian soybean exporters will have to defend their positions in the EU, Turkey and Egypt markets on an equal footing with American suppliers. Although the country’s soybean export potential in MY 2025/26 will amount to about 3 million tons, and part of the harvest will go for domestic processing, global pressure on prices will be felt soon.
