Egypt imported more than 10 mln tons of wheat in 2024
According to the customs, Egypt imported 10.8 mln tonnes of wheat in January-September 2024 (8.3 mln tonnes in the same period last year), of which 8 mln tonnes were supplied from Russia and 1.5 mln tonnes from Ukraine.
As a reminder, Egypt plans to reduce wheat imports and partially replace it with sorghum and corn to reduce the cost of subsidized bread.
At the same time, recently, the state-owned Egyptian grain operator GASC signed one of the largest direct agreements for monthly supply of 510 thsd tonnes of Black Sea wheat during November 2024 – April 2025.
