Early spring arrival leads to earlier planting and harvesting this year
Farmers in all the regions of Ukraine have begun planting early spring crops: wheat, barley, oats and peas. As of March 19, this work was roughly 4% complete (some 600 Th ha planted). The planted area of major spring crops (10 ones) is forecast at 15.26 Ml ha that is 0.3 Ml ha more than in 2019.
In general, high air temperatures and strong winds reduced topsoil moisture content in winter crop fields.
Night frosts occurring since March 15 slowed growth of winter crops, but did not adversely affect their condition. They continue growing and increasing in size – this process was particularly active on March 11-15. Crop plants are in good and fair condition, UkrAgroConsult reports.
