Due to the war, the grain harvest in Ukraine will be reduced by about a third – Elizaveta Malyshko
Due to the war, the grain harvest in Ukraine will decrease by about a third. Recent events confirm expectations. Elizaveta Malyshko, a leading expert of the UkrAgroConsult consulting agency, said this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
“The estimate remains at the level of 53-55 million tons of grain and 16-17 million tons of oil crops. Harvesting of early grain crops has already begun, and current results confirm our previous forecasts,” she said.
According to her, in the south there are some problems with the thinness of grain, but in general the quality and quantity of grain is quite satisfactory.
“Our assumption regarding the significant difference between the sown areas and the areas to be harvested is also confirmed. Unfortunately, dry, ripe fields and harvest residues easily catch fire from artillery fire, which causes serious losses to farmers,” said Malyshko.
As the expert noted, the largest component of Ukrainian grain – corn, is in one of the critical phases – flowering. Good yields now require moderate temperatures and moisture.
“And we see that the weather so far is quite suitable for these needs. So the expectations remain relatively optimistic. On the other hand, the return of heat in the near future, which we see in some forecasts, could slightly reduce the yield potential in the future, so we are closely watching the development of events.” , – added the expert of the consulting agency “UkrAgroConsult”.
We will remind, earlier the company “UkrAgroConsult” predicted that due to the war, the grain harvest would decrease by about a third – to 55 million tons.
