Corn harvest starts in Bulgaria
The corn harvest in Bulgaria started this week, and it is already clear that the yield has decreased by almost 35% compared to last year.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food reported that as of August 14, farmers had harvested corn from only 1,000 hectares out of 416,000 hectares, with an average yield of only 200 kg/dka, which is 34.4% lower than at the same stage in 2024, when the yield was 305 kg/dka.
In comparison, 18,200 hectares of sunflower were harvested out of the expected 949,000 hectares, with an average yield of 123 kg/dka, which is an improvement compared to the previous week (99 kg/dka), but still 2.4% lower than last year.
The latest data on autumn crops is also encouraging:
7.3 million tons of wheat were harvested (≈ 580 kg/dka), which is 2.3% more than in the previous season.
1.1 million tons of barley were threshed (≈ 568 kg/dka), which is 4.8% more.
Rapeseed was harvested (≈ 288,000 tons), which is 13.7% more than in the previous season.
