Almost 3 M mt of agricultural goods were shipped through Constanta in November 2023, which included 900 K mt of transit commodities, primarily from Ukraine. It is less than 3.97 M mt shipped in October 2923, October exports was a record for the current 2023/24 season.
The main commodities exported in November were the same as in October, including wheat, corn and rapeseed. However, there was a significant difference in November with almost no barley exports and an increase in sunflower oil exports.
The top 5 export terminals handled almost half (44.8%) of all agricultural exports. This amounted to about 1300-1350 K mt. The major export destinations for these top 5 terminals were Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam – all located in Southeast Asia.
In November, more than 760 barges with 1 M mt of agricultural products on board arrived at the port of Constanta. The main commodities were wheat (370-380 K mt), corn (about 280 K mt), sunflower oil (more than 160 K mt).
In November, it came as no surprise that Ukraine was the leading provider of farm products to the port of Constanta. Ukraine sent over 450 barges, with more than 630 K mt from Ukrainian Danube ports. However, due to weather conditions, shipments on the Danube were sometimes reduced.
The large number of barges leaving the Ukrainian ports of Izmail and Reni in November suggests that the port of Constanta in Romania remains a major player in Ukraine’s agricultural exports. This remains true despite the recent opening of the new Ukrainian grain corridor.
