Chinese market may be opened for Ukrainian peas, flour, corn, beef and chicken
Ukraine and China are negotiating the opening of the Chinese market for a number of Ukrainian products of plant and animal origin. According to the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, this issue was discussed by its leadership with representatives of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China with the participation of the embassies of both countries.
Thus, during the meeting, the parties discussed draft bilateral international agreements on the export of peas, wheat flour, pet food, beef, corn, poultry, and wild-caught aquatic products from Ukraine to China.
“China is an important market for national exporters of agricultural products, so there is constant interaction between the State Food and Consumer Service and the competent authority of the PRC. Our goal is to open seven new markets. This is a long process of approval, but step by step we are succeeding,” said Oleg Osiyan, First Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
The documents on the listed products are currently at different stages of processing and approval. In particular, the protocol on peas is already at the stage of completing domestic approval in Ukraine, and the texts have been sent to the Chinese side for consideration.
According to Volodymyr Kusturov, Deputy Head of the Service and Chief State Veterinary Inspector of Ukraine, China is considering draft protocols on poultry and fish exports. The SSUFSCP submitted its proposals on the text of the protocol in the fall.
The protocol on wild-caught aquatic products has already passed domestic approval and is at the stage of final approval by the Chinese side. The texts of the protocols on beef and pet food are also currently undergoing internal approval.
It should be noted that the Chinese honey market was the last to be opened to Ukrainian producers: the form of the relevant certificate was agreed upon at the beginning of this year.
