China’s major grain barn Heilongjiang preparing for new planting season

Heilongjiang, one of China’s major grain production bases, is ramping up efforts to produce more high-quality crops to make greater contribution to national food security. Right after the Chinese New Year holiday, the northeastern province launched a new campaign to expand its grain production capacity.
Although it’s now a slack winter season for agricultural production, preparations for the upcoming spring farming are in full swing. Heilongjiang continues to set its grain production target at above 75 billion kilograms for this year. It also plans to raise production capacity by more than 100 million kilograms within five years. Heilongjiang plans to build seven competitive industries including rice, corn, and soybeans by the year 2026, to serve as a bedrock of national food security.
