China unveiled a 5-year plan to modernize its agricultural sector
China has approved a plan to accelerate agricultural and rural modernization during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030), according to the State Council website.
The plan aims to improve China’s food security, boost the efficiency of the agricultural sector, and develop rural areas. By 2030, the country’s authorities intend to increase total grain production capacity to approximately 725 million tons.
China has also set a target for the quality of agricultural products. By 2030, the success rate of inspections for product compliance with safety standards should reach at least 98%.
The five-year plan defines the following key areas for agricultural development:

- increasing farmer incomes.
By 2030, the country also intends to increase the contribution of scientific and technological progress to agricultural development to 67%.
The document notes that China will continue to develop areas such as intelligent plant breeding, new-energy agricultural machinery, the use of unmanned technologies, agrobioproduction, and new types of food products.
In 2025, grain production in China reached approximately 714.9 million tons. This is the second consecutive year that the volume has exceeded 700 million tons, according to the report.
