China sharply reduced wheat and corn imports in August
According to the China Customs Administration, China’s wheat imports fell to 410,000 tons in August, a multi-year low and half as much as in August 2023. Corn imports in August fell to 430,000 tons, down 64% from last year’s level.
The pace of wheat and corn purchases has slowed after robust imports earlier this year. From January through August 2024, China imported 10.49 million tons of wheat (+10% vs. the same period in 2023) and 12.56 million tons of corn (-16%).
