Canada reduced grain exports in August

Canada’s shipments of major grain crops fell in August 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to Statistics Canada. The report, released on September 25, shows that total shipments were 3.588 million tonnes, down from 4.329 million tonnes in August 2024. Tariffs on Canadian goods exported to the United States may have affected these figures.
Wheat shipments in August were 2.259 million tonnes, down slightly from 2.321 million tonnes a year earlier. Durum wheat shipments, on the other hand, increased from 244,560 tonnes in August 2024 to 279,584 tonnes in 2025. Canola shipments fell to 621,555 tonnes, the lowest monthly figure since May 2022, compared to 1.32 million tonnes in August last year.
Barley shipments in August 2025 were 379,238 tonnes, slightly up from 375,071 tonnes in August 2024. Oat volumes increased from 267,271 tonnes to 278,097 tonnes. Rye shipments increased from 29,375 tonnes to 38,098 tonnes, while flax shipments decreased from 15,127 tonnes in 2024 to 11,953 tonnes in August 2025.
Saskatchewan accounted for 36.6% of total supplies, followed by Manitoba at 22.2% and Alberta at 20.4%. These provinces remain key to Canada’s grain production and supply.
