Bulgaria. Winter crops remain dormant
Weather conditions. Following a brief cold spell, weather conditions have changed. Above-normal temperatures were observed in mid-January, but their average daily values stayed below the biological minimum needed for winter grains to resume growth. So, they will remain dormant.
Moisture supply. The fields planted to winter grains still had unusually low soil moisture in the layers of 0-50 cm and 0-100 cm.
Condition of winter crops. The lowest air temperatures (10-11°C below zero) were seen in Western Bulgaria and the Thracian Plain. In snow-free conditions, these values are dangerous to late-sown winter crops, which are dormant in the stages of emergence and early leaf formation, reports UkrAgroConsult.
