Bulgaria: supply & demand balances for oilseeds

Sunflower seed: forecasts remain optimistic 2020/21

– an expansion of the planted area (+2.8% from MY 2019/20, the largest in six seasons – the rise in plantings was driven by domestic crush growth along with the weather factor);
– yield (+6%, a record high, favorable current weather conditions);
– the crop (+7%, near the 2017/18 record of 2.057 MMT);
– sunflower seed imports (-18%, the feedstock need will be covered by growth in domestic production of sunflower seed);
– domestic processing (sunflower oil and sunflower seed husking) at last year’s level;
– sunflower seed exports (-8%, domestic crush remains prioritized).
