Bulgaria harvested a lot of quality wheat this year — trader

Bulgaria has harvested a high harvest of high-quality wheat this year. Bulgarian vegetable oil and commodity trader Preslav Raikov told Latifundist.com.
“The wheat harvest was excellent — 7.1 million tons of high-quality grain under ideal weather and harvesting conditions. And yet farmers are complaining because prices are lower due to oversupply. They want high yields, high prices and high demand at the same time — which is unrealistic,” he says.
According to Raikov, another problem is the competitiveness of ports. Varna and Burgas are less developed than Constanta and have higher costs for services, such as phytosanitary control — 10 times more expensive than in Romania. This pushes buyers towards Romanian ports and reduces demand for Bulgarian grain.
“Farmers should lobby for infrastructure improvements, but, again, certain interests are holding back the development of the sector,” Raikov added.
Preslav Raikov will be a speaker at the 11th International Conference BLACK SEA OIL TRADE, which will take place on September 23 in Bucharest! Join agribusiness professionals from 25+ countries for a powerful start to the new oilseed season!
