Black Sea demining: Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania sign a deal
Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania signed an agreement on Thursday, January 11, to jointly combat sea mines in the Black Sea that have threatened shipping since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by AP.
According to Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler, the memorandum provides for the creation of a task force on mine action between the three NATO allies to combat drifting mines.
“We have jointly decided to sign a protocol between the three countries in order to more effectively combat the mine threat in the Black Sea by improving our existing close cooperation and coordination,” Güler said at a press conference in Istanbul.
The initiative also aims to make the transportation of grain from Ukraine safer.
As a reminder, Ukraine, the UK government and a pool of international insurance companies with the participation of Marsh insurance brokerage, which is part of Olyver Vyman, have created a special unprecedented mechanism for insuring ships using the Ukrainian sea corridor.
