Barley prices in Ukrainian ports reached 11,000 UAH/t
There is a huge supply deficit on the barley market in Ukraine, caused by producers’ busyness with field work and a sharp increase in transportation costs, as well as problems with the availability of free transport for transportation to ports.
During the week, export demand prices for feed barley in Ukraine increased by 200-300 UAH/t to 10,800-10,900 UAH/t or $222-225/t with delivery to Black Sea ports, and under some agreements reached 11,000 UAH/t for express delivery. In the first half of November, Ukraine exported only 58 thousand tons of barley (compared to 110 thousand tons for the same period last year), and in total since the beginning of the season – 1.15 million tons, which is 57% lower than the corresponding figure last year (1.8 million tons).
High bid prices are linked to high prices in recent tenders, which reached $257-269/t C&F. However, yesterday, the Jordanian state agency canceled a tender for the purchase of feed barley due to excessively high bid prices.
It is worth noting that demand for brewing barley in Ukraine is practically non-existent, and malt producers promise to return to the market no earlier than spring 2026.
Low corn prices and increased supply of new crop barley and wheat from Australia in January will severely reduce demand for expensive Ukrainian barley, so farmers need to take advantage of the new wave of demand growth and sell barley.
