Barley prices at importer tenders remain high, but increased supply will cool markets
On December 10, the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade held a tender to purchase 120,000 tons of feed barley of any origin, European traders report.
The tender contracted 120 thousand tons of barley at a price of $272.75/ton C&F, namely:
- 60 thousand tons from Al Ghurair with shipment on January 15-31,
- 60 thousand tons from Olam with shipment on February 1-15.
Barley was also offered at the tender at the following prices:
- Bunge – $279/t,
- Dreyfus – $282/t,
- Aston – $289/t,
- Agrocorp – $278.5/t.
The next tender for the purchase of 120,000 tons of feed barley of any origin with shipment in March-April is planned to be held on December 17.
Despite the improvement in the global barley balance for the 2025/26 MY compared to the previous season, bid prices at major importers’ tenders have continued to rise in recent months due to limited supply, but the arrival of Australian barley on the market will cool markets in the near term.
Recall that on November 27, the Tunisian Grain Agency (ODC) held a tender for the purchase of 125 thousand tons of feed barley of any origin, where it purchased 75 thousand tons at an average price of $269.14/ton on a C&F basis, which is $4.64/ton higher than the tender price on November 7, when 75 thousand tons of feed barley were purchased at an average price of $264.5/ton C&F.
In addition, on December 11, the Tunisian Grain Agency (ODC) purchased 125,000 tons of feed barley (5 lots of 25,000 tons) at a tender with shipment from January 10 to February 20, 2026 from Bunge at a price of $269.12/ton C&F.
Also, 125 thousand tons of soft food wheat were purchased at an average price of $256.47/ton C&F and 100 thousand tons of durum wheat at an average price of $319.7/ton C&F.
